History

Ouray was originally established by minors seeking silver and gold in the surrounding mountains.
The town was incorporated on October 2, 1876 and named after Chief Ouray of the Utes, a Native American tribe.
Ouray is often called the “Little Switzerland of America” and is most well known for its incredible scenery. The most notable activities are scenic driving, 4×4 roads and epic sunsets.
